Powers Lake Boy's Basketball makes first state tournament in 80 years
The last time Powers Lake Boys Basketball went to the state tournament, there were only 48 states in the union and North Dakota was only 50 years old.
That is until last night when they beat Mandaree to take home the Region eight crown and go back to the state tournament for the first time in 80 years.
Members of the team say they had to overcome many challenges to achieve this historic feat.
“Together is the only way to winning games and staying alive like we're trying to do right now. We're playing for our lives,” said senior Guard Kyle Van Berkom.
“It's crazy to see hundreds of people, 90% of our town at that game. Also alumni that you haven't seen in years are coming with supporting messages on Facebook. Everyone's cheering for us,” said Senior Forward Aiden Nordleof.
The Boys class B tournaments starts March 14 at the Minot State Dome.
