North Dakota Special Olympians bring home 18 medals from Seattle

Twenty-seven Special Olympians from North Dakota participated in the 2018 Special Olympics USA games last week in Seattle, Washington. More than 4,000 athletes from across the country competed in the games.

Team North Dakota won five gold, seven silver and six bronze medals. The team also earned eight 4th place, six 5th place, one 6th place and one 7th place spots.

Bismarck-Mandan athletes include Shale Erickson in powerlifting, Aiden Meidinger in men’s basketball, and David Johs in Bocce ball. Bismarck teacher Kurt Weinberg was a powerlifting coach.

Held every four years, the next Special Olympics USA Games will take place in Orlando, Florida June 5-10, 2022.
