NDSU coaching connection to Montana State

FARGO, N.D. - When Tim Polasek left North Dakota State to go to the Iowa Hawkeyes, Chris Klieman was in need of an offensive coordinator. He turned to a close friend, Courtney Messingham. He left Montana State to join the Bison coaching staff.

Messingham still knows a number of the Bobcats’ players and Troy Anderson’s name has come up a lot this week. He’s Montana State’s quarterback.

"He was the freshman of the year, newcomer of the year and didn't play quarterback. He played both linebacker and running back as a freshman. And even this year, Western Illinois, South Dakota State still saw him play some of the other positions rather than only quarterback because he's just that type of athlete and he's very, very gifted."

He will be the focus of the Bison’s defense on Saturday, but Messingham’s offense has to be frightening Montana State’s defensive staff. The Bison are over 41 points a game, while the Bobcats defense is giving up an average of 26.5.

The Farmers Union Insurance Bison Football Pre-Game Show is at 1:00 CT on NBC North Dakota Sports. To watch the game itself, you’ll have to go on your computer and watch the game on ESPN3.
