FARGO, N.D. - The number one goal for the North Dakota State football program is to win the Missouri Valley Conference championship. The Bison did that in undefeated fashion, with Saturday's victory at Southern Illinois.
The victory over the Salukis also tied NDSU's record of 33-straight FCS wins and locked in the number one overall seed for the upcoming playoffs.
It also means the Bison get a first round bye so they will have their first week off since October 5.
"Overall, I can't say enough about our staff and enough about our players to be able to go 12-0 is an exceptional feat but at 3:15 today, we're going to close that chapter and move onto the second season where you hopefully get hot and stay hot and you have a one week season after one week season," said NDSU Head Coach Matt Entz.
One of the big benefits of having a 1st-round playoff bye is the Bison expect to have a handful of guys who could not play in Carbondale ready for the first weekend in December.
"Cole Karcz, I am anticipating will be back. Josh Babich will be back," said Entz. "Dimitri Williams will be another name I think you'll see back so just those three guys themselves you're talking about three experienced players with two of them seniors that have played a lot of football. Those are guys that can continue to help us win football games and play at a high level."
On December 7 , NDSU will host the winner of the UND at Nichols first round game which is this Saturday in Louisiana.
