MANDAN, N.D. - The Mandan Braves volleyball team is off to a hot start this season. They've opened the WDA with five straight victories heading into a Tuesday match in Jamestown.
The Braves they wanted to come out strong to start 2019 against some tough competition early in the fall.
"Really I think the goal was to just get after it right away. So it is a nice start but we have liked it and we have played some really close matches with some really good teams and I think the team played really well and finished them out strong," said Taylor Leingang, junior.
"Yes it was. We were really just trying to figure out what works for our team best and I think we are getting that figured out and it is really helping out a lot.," said Piper Harris, sophomore.
Mandan's opponent Tuesday evening is a Blue Jays team that head coach Anna Folk says is similar to the Braves.
"They are right there with us with wins and losses. They are always a tough team. It is kind of like playing ourselves. They play really great defense and are super scrappy and they just don't go away ever, so that ball never dies and it's tough to have a lot of kills and a lot of aces against that team but I feel like we kind of match up well with them," said Folk.
