FARGO, N.D. - It's the final week of spring practice for the defending FCS football champions. North Dakota State's final workout is on Friday night and it will be live on the KFYR-KVLY Bison Television Network from the Fargodome.
One of the main reasons the Bison have been able to win consistently is depth. Seth Wilson was expected to be at the top of the running back list but he tore the ACL in his knee. But even without out Wilson, the head coach is happy with that position group.
"I'm impressed with running backs right now. We had a mock scrimmage just trying to work through some operational things because of the new coaches, and because of some younger players. And you see the likes of Saybein Clark, a young man that came in here and I thought as a defensive guy was a little bit stiff a year ago, and as the year went on he continued to improve and kept showing me glimpses of things on the scout team, and I'm really pleased with where he's at," said Matt Entz, .
Bruce Anderson and Lance Dunn graduated, but Entz still has plenty of guys with experience to lead the tailbacks, despite Wilson's injury.
"Ty Brooks continues to be electric and the thing that he's done is elevate his leadership as we've moved into the spring before his senior year. Adam Cofield is solid. Dimitri Williams is a young man we were able to redshirt a year ago because of our depth at running back. We were able to get him going and get him some quality reps, and more importantly is the protection part of the game plan and we brought in a couple of young guys in this this summer," said Entz.
The Green-Gold scrimmage is on KFYR-TV, KQCD-TV, KUMV-TV, KMOT-TV and KVLY-TV beginning at 6:30 p.m. central time on April 26. Coverage will include part of the ring ceremony.
