Don Hanson Passes Away

Don Hanson died on Monday, Sept. 17. Don was well know in the sports circles around North Dakota.

In 1983, he started producing the "Hoopster" and added the "Miss Hoopster" later.

Hanson started coaching basketball in 1964 at New Salem and he moved to Mandan in '67.

Don coached the Braves for 13 seasons which included the 1981 state championship.

Hanson's basketball exploits are well know, but I loved talking baseball with him. Don was a professional scout for a number of teams, most recently the Minnesota Twins.

The funeral is Thursday at First Lutheran Church in Mandan at 10:00 a.m. and this is the perfect Don Hanson touch. He has requested people to please wear your favorite sports team gear to the funeral service.
