DICKINSON, N.D. - A Dickinson High School gymnastics coach is retiring after almost 40 years.

With coaching the Dickinson Gymnastics club and the Dickinson High School Midgets he instills these things in all his athletes:

"Hard work, if you have hard work and determination, you're going to get your goal," said Senior Brinklyn Schumacher.

Senior Ayanna Fossum said, "He always says like, there's two decisions when you're scared of something. You're scared and I’m just going to not do it and I’m going to give up, or I'm scared and I am going to go for it anyways, so I mean that's always kind of in the back of my head and I'll always remember that."

Dickinson Gymnastics Coach Kent Van Ells says he's been coaching for more than 50 years. When he landed in Dickinson the summer of 1983 he knew this was the perfect fit.

"The support has been amazing, of course the kids have been amazing it's just, it, I knew it was a fit right away," said Van Ells.

Van Ells and his team have won the NDHSAA State Championship four years in a row and is hoping for another win this year.

Van Ells last day with team will be at the end of the month, and his last day with the club will at the end of the school year.
