DICKINSON, N.D. - An impressive home victory keeps the Dickinson State Football team in the top-25 of the NAIA National Football poll.
The Blue Hawks beat Northwestern of Iowa 42-13 as DSU scored 14 points in the first three quarters to put the Red Raiders away early. The victory was the team’s second straight after opening against Montana Western who just so happens to be tied with the Hawks in the poll at no. 22. Marian, IN is no. 1 followed by Morningside from Sioux City. DSU is the only North Star Conference team in the poll.
On Saturday, the Hawks defense did not allow any points until the 4th quarter, but Dickinson State began the season with 8 starters back on that side of the ball, and the Head Coach, Pete Stanton says that’s always a big help.
"On the defensive line Noey Tauve was an all-conference player for us last year. Tommy Sease from Bismarck and Colby Wartman were all-conference players as well along with Drew Johnson but it's just finding that depth on the defensive line and and depth at inside linebacker because in the secondary we have four of those guys back and three were all-conference," said Stanton.
The Blue Hawks do not play this week, but they will be back on the field Sept. 24 to take on Presentation College.
