Dickinson is trying to do this year what Mandan couldn’t do last year – win a state title in both high school and Legion baseball.
After the Midgets claimed the high school title, the Roughriders had a little bit of a title hangover but have started getting back on track in the last several weeks.
“It’s a team effort, we have guys, different guys stepping up every game. We’re playing great defense, we’re getting timely hits one through. Honestly it doesn’t matter who we stick in the lineup, it’s a surprise everyday who comes through for us," says Roughriders Head Coach, Stephen Greenwood.
With almost exactly the same team as Dickinson High, the Roughriders are using the success from the high school season as a boost in the summer.
“Yeah, it gives us the confidence to know that we can play with anyone in the state so if we do lose a game here and there we know not to freak out and stay calm and that we can play with anybody,” says Roughriders pitcher, infielder Benson Kramer.
The Roughriders are in South Dakota for a trio of games this weekend before heading to Mandan July 12.
