Dickinson State is in Alabama for the NAIA National Outdoor Track Meet.
The Blue Hawks have six women and six men who qualified.
"All of those kids are there for a reason. They qualified on the merit of their own performances. It wasn't a voting thing so they all belong there and anything can happen so a big throw in the javelin or those things can happen. So if we can get 2-3 All-American's that would be great. If we can score 10-15 point that would be awesome," said Shayne Wittkopp, DSU head coach.
The Hawks will be in Gulf Shores, Ala. with the heat and humidity and Wittkopp says there's a potential obstacle for runners in the marathon.
"It's going to be different. They warm you at the start of that race not to approach alligators. That's something that we do not run into up here so it's a challenge it really is," said Wittkopp.
The NAIA National Outdoor runs May 23-25.
