BISMARCK, N.D. - The Century Patriots have won the state title for volleyball the past three seasons. But, to do it for the fourth consecutive year, they’ll need to get past some tough WDA opponents, like tonight’s contest.
Century is playing its cross-town rival, the Bismarck Demons.
Jamie Zastoupil is the head coach for the Patriots, and she knows the power of the Demons will be hard to handle.
"You know with our girls Bismarck High we know they have some good hitters so tonight we're really focusing on our blocking and out defense with that just constantly fine tuning our serve receiving trying to get a first ball kill off of each play but just really focusing on our control," said Zastoupil.
“They are very good and I think we all just need to get our energy up and come up strong so that we can start off good right away," said senior Mya Klein..
The players understand that this week of opponents is their first big hurdle, as junior Lauren ware says: “Just kind of like a test of like how we can play back to back especially playing good teams back to back we already know that it’s going to be like a struggle playing BHS tomorrow but we have to know that we're coming in ready to play and prepare well today.”
"Their team has played like a lot together so I think they 're going to have a lot of connection they're going to be talking a lot so like even though we haven't been playing that much together as a team we have a lot of young girls I think we just have to play like our best as a team and a whole,” said Patriots senior Ashley Scherbenske.
Century is 4-0 in the conference while Bismarck is 2-1.
