Century boys basketball

BISMARCK, N.D. - The Century boys basketball team is on a two-game win streak, and the Patriots are trying to climb up that West Region ladder before the regular season comes to an end.

Century has a mix of young and returning talent on their roster, which means its had a few struggles. Recently, Coach Darin Mattern feels like this team is getting more into a groove as the season has progressed.

"You know, we knew coming into the season that we had some inexperience, but, you know, I think we've shown some growth over the last two weeks or so, and I'm very excited the direction we're heading. I think we're getting better every game, and ultimately as a coach, that's what you want to see. And we're just shooting to keep improving on the daily basis, and try to give us, our basketball team, an opportunity to be in the mix come tournament time," said Darin.

As the players continue on working to build their team, executing on defense is one are they feel they have improved on as we get closer to March.

"I think we need to come together as a team, and focus on team defense, and stop beating the other team as a whole, and not focusing on one guy, and offense will come as long as we stay aggressive and turn the ball and get good shots," said Stevie Kraljic, senior center.

"We're getting a lot better on defense,” added senior guard Treyton Mattern. “I think we kind of struggled early this season, carrying out a game-plan, but I think as the games go on and we get more and more experience, I think that's going to be one of our strengths by the end of the year."

Tuesday night the Patriots host the Dickinson Midgets. We’ll have highlights from that game on the Night Report.

Wednesday you can hear more from Treyton when Kaleigh puts him in the Sports Spotlight.
