BISMARCK, N.D. - Century went 6-1 in the season-opening Bismarck Invitational, and then the Demons dropped the Patriots in the first WDA volleyball match.
Since then, Century has won 20 straight. The Patriots were taken to a fifth set only once during the winning streak.
Century has a diverse offense but like all good teams defense gets it started.
"I think our serve receive has gotten better throughout the season and once you get a good pass, your offense runs a lot better and that means our hitters have a better ball to put away," said Kaia Lill, Century senior.
"We have a lot of players with a lot of varsity experience and we have some with no varsity experience until this year, so I think that really makes us diverse, and we have a lot of talent overall, and we mesh really well together and compliment each other when we play," said Julia Fitterer, Century junior.
Remember the big blizzard we had this fall? It cancelled a big Class-A volleyball get together out east so state should be a little less predictable.
"We need to be peaking right now and hopefully we're at that point. A big blow not having that Fargo Tournament. It's been three months since we've see the East so we don't know what we're going to get there but we just hope we can put it together and stay competitive and keep up with a strong tradition," said Jamie Zastoupil, Century head coach.
How about the tradition of being in the state championship game for the last eight years in a row? The Patriots have won the last four state championships.
