BISMARCK, N.D. - The high school basketball season for class-A teams start later this week. On the girls side, the Century Patriots won last year’s state championship, and now they’re looking to repeat.
Some of the players were on the Patriots volleyball state championship team that just won the title a little over a week ago, as head coach of the Patriots, Ron Metz says: "Well you just kind of ease into things it’s what we did starting through last week and ease into things start getting things going and ramped up a little bit Wednesday a little bit game them Thursday off for Thanksgiving as we did and have two real solid practices Friday and Saturday no were really starting to roll things in here this week."
The Patriots graduated five seniors from last year’s championship team.
Lilly Keplin believes the underclassmen will step in just fine.
"All of our Juniors are definitely going to step up this year a couple of our sophomores you know they're all really promising all very talented you know they're on this team for a reason and I think they'll all have a chance to get up there and play some Varsity minutes that's for sure. Just help with their confidence its hard coming here as underclassmen I know because I was here as a freshman and sophomore I’s a little bit different but it’s really nice having those older girls there for you to encourage you and help bring your spirits up you know not every shots going to fall everybody's going to have turnovers," said Keplin.
Century’s season opener is in Fargo on Saturday where the patriots will face the Davies Eagles.
