BISMARCK, N.D. - Century finished second last year at the Dakota Bowl in Class-AAA Football, but the Patriots are in the number one position when it comes to previews this week.
The Century Patriots are coming off a season where they were just a play a way from hoisting the state championship trophy. The Patriots are poised for another run at the state title with experienced starters returning on both sides of the ball.
Century Head Coach Ron Wingenbach said: " We bring back, I believe seven on offense and four from last years, that's a good start. I think anytime you can have five or six on both sides of the ball that's a real good place to start. I think anytime you can have five or six on both sides of the ball that's a real good place to start."
The Patriots return their leading rusher running back Grant Anderson. Wingenbach is still trying to figure out who will the reliable backups will be.
"On the offensive side positions such as running back, tight end, those are positions that we are always looking for depth this is a year that we feel pretty good about our offense and defensive lines, but you are always hoping that come mid October you have some sophomores that you can play in there as well," added Wingenbach.
All-State quarterback Cade Feeney threw over one thousand yards with 14 touchdowns on his way to the 2018 State Championship game. This year, Feeney will depend on a trio of wide receivers to haul in a majority of the receptions.
"Skyler Reidinger, Cody Sorenson, Griffin Jenson, you know those guys have been putting in work this summer and you can tell that's just that speed and all our wide receivers we lost mostly everyone that was playing last year but this younger crew. Skyler Reidinger is the only one with experience this this younger crew they are ready to go," said Cade Feeney, Century QB-DB
Just over a week ago, Feeney committed to play baseball at North Dakota State and he's cherishing one last season under center.
"Just enjoy every snap because you never know what can happen and I mean I'm going to miss football a lot I can just tell already just with camp and starting pre season that these guys are awesome I'm going to miss it," said Feeney.
It starts on the road for Century on Friday when the Patriots play in Fargo against Davies.
West Fargo is their home non-conference game before WDA play starts against Legacy at the Bowl on Saturday, Sept. 14.
The Patriots and Demon game is always one to circle on the calendar and it's the final game of the regular season.
