MINOT, N.D. - This coming Saturday, amateur and professional boxers from North Dakota, across the United States, and even Canada, will take over the convention center at the 4Bears Casino & Lodge in New Town.
Ronald Cruz will take on Brandon Maddox in the super welterweight title defense fight. North Dakota's Sonja Fox will take on Claire Hafner.
Some of the boxers are from as far away as California, though three of the athletes are from right here in North Dakota, including one who's making his professional debut.
Hall of Fame boxer Virgil Hill is doing his part to help promote the event, and said he wants to grow the sport in the Peace Garden State.
“I would love to see one of our kids back in the Olympics. I'd love to see one of our kids win a world title again. And that's what we're trying to do. We're trying to keep it alive here, and we're trying to build it, so that the kids will have an easier opportunity to transfer from the amateurs to the pros,” said Hill.
There's several amateur fights on the ticket starting at 5:30 p.m., with the main event at 7 p.m.
