Blue Hawks start fall camp Sunday

DICKINSON, N.D. - Fall camp for most universities started about a week ago, but fall camp for the Dickinson State Blue Hawks begins Sunday.

Head Coach Stanton not only will be working with a little bit of a different roster, but a new coaching staff. So, getting back on the football field is always exciting, especially with new additions, so the excitement to start the season, is definitely there.

"Well I think our guys have had a great summer,” Stanton said. “They're excited, and one thing we always talk about is every year is a new year. You know, last year is last year and it was a good year, and now everything's about the 2018 team, and I think that's really what we've stressed and emphasized, and we've lost a lot of guys, but we have a lot of guys back to it. Guys are really brought into summer, we had over 50 guys here this summer practicing and lifting and working hard. So that part of it's been positive, so there's a lot of excitement for our guys moving forward."

And with great excitement for a new season, comes big expectations for the coach, to the players.

Stanton said, "Expectations are, we're always going to play as hard as we can, and play as well as we can. And you know our number one goal, as far as at the, throughout the season, is to win our home games, to win as many games as we can, and try to win the conference championship. That's always a goal in the beginning. And you know you do a one game at a time, but that's always the goal at the beginning is to try and do that, and the other thing is, to not to even reflect back, not to ever look back, but to look forward and knowing you've got to take it one game at a time."

The Blue Hawks begin fall camp on Sunday, and kick-off their 2018 season on Sept. 1 against Jamestown at home.
