BISMARCK, N.D. - The Bismarck Larks are getting ready for the upcoming season and so is Municipal Ballpark.
A new 2,500 square foot deck is being built in the Fireside tailgate area. It's an all-inclusive food and beverage section down the rightfield line.
Larks G.M. John Bollinger says the new space is a cooperative improvement with the team, Bismarck Park & Rec and the Northwoods League Foundation, "we just needed to get the sightlines higher with the foul line fence there. It really came out of a need because the first year we were at 1,600 seats and we wanted to add 300 seats so we kept people out in that area. Well then we found again people were having a good time but it you were a little shorter or especially if you're in a wheelchair or kids it was hard to see."
Bollinger also says they're holding a Community Day on May 27th. It's a first for the Larks from 12:00ct to 4:00ct. It's a free event and open to the public.
"The players aren't in town very often. As you know, they play 72 games in 76 days so the concept was how can we do a community event that's going to get fans a chance to meet the team, do some autographs, have some fun with the guys before the season starts but they're going to be doing free food for every single person that comes in," said Bollinger. "We're going to be doing a Larks home run derby for the first time so that should be a lot of fun. Just introducing the team to the community. We're going to have inflatable's and some different activities for kids and family."
The Larks season starts on May 28 at home against Eau Claire.
