WILLISTON, N.D. - Mud, sweat and beer, that's what you can expect at the fourth annual Bakken X Trek.
The extreme competition makes its return to Spring Lake Park in two weeks. It will feature 32 obstacles throughout the park, including natural elements like mud, water, swamp and hills, and also constructed obstacles like ropes, webs, tires and walls.
According to Bakken X Trek race director, Jenn Shanahan, the mud-run is developed specifically for Williston. Staff on the Bakken X-Trek committee and Williston Parks have put a lot of time and effort into designing the course. Shanahan says the idea is for the course to be tough and push people out of their comfort zone.
Competitors run the course in staggered waves to reduce long lines and wait times at obstacles. The cost for participating is $59 for adults and $35 for youth, and team registration is $290 for a team of six adults or $170 for a youth team.
"Any registration includes a shirt, a finishing prize, a meal at the end and a pint of your favorite Stonehome brew, or non-alcoholic beverage if you're under 21," said Shanahan.
Competitors can celebrate their hard-earned achievements later that night with activities for the whole family.
"It's kind of our Bakken X Trek post-event party. We're going to have DJ on site and games, so again adding to that family-friendly community event feel. We have the race itself, but also fun activities so everyone can hangout," said Shanahan.
Pre-registration ends August 13. For more information on registering or to learn more about the course, you can visit their website at: www.willistonparks.com/bakkenxtrek
