Work toward levee safety continues in Minot
Despite Friday's cooler weather, a couple people needed to dive into the Souris River in the morning.
As part of the System Wide Improvement Frame Works plan, divers jumped into the cold water to conduct maintenance along the levees in Minot. The divers are helping with a storm sewer outfall investigation looking at the nearly 80 pipes that direct storm water into the Souris River.
This project is investigating about 17,000 feet of pipe and evaluating its integrity along the Souris River system through the city.
"The main reason that we're doing this project is to keep the levy system in compliance with the Army Core of Engineers. So it was per their request that we do all of these inspections," says Dayna Morton, City of Minot Project Engineer.
The project is in the beginning stages, and Morton says she expects it to continue through next summer.
