WILLISTON, N.D. - People who move to the state's oilfield and put down roots are often unaware of all the recreational opportunities. Residents who know North Dakota say there's so much to explore year-round in the Peace Garden State.
As we head into spring, it's the perfect time to discover what the state has to offer at Williston's annual Sport and Recreation Show. The event gives area newcomers and outdoor enthusiasts a better look at how people here do year-round hunting and fishing, and take full advantage of warm weather for camping and off-roading.
"The Sport and Rec Show kind of tries to capture what we can do all year-round in North Dakota. People tend to get a little stir crazy in the winter months, especially with the huge storm just coming in. So this is a nice way to kind of come out and get a little bit of spring fever, to see the boats and see what kinds of things we can do to get ready for the summer," said Ashley Oyloe, Convention and Visitors Bureau events and convention services coordinator.
Now in its 34th year, the three-day event will even have some fun stuff for kids on Saturday and Sunday, including a live trout pond for kids to give fishing a try. There are multiple activities and presentations from pro fisherman, and Birds of Prey and Reptile Gardens of South Dakota.
