WILLISTON, N.D. - The results for Williston's special election are in.

With 598 votes, Williston residents have voted to continue the 1 percent sales tax for the next decade; 226 people opposed the measure, which would have expired in 2020 had it failed to pass.

The tax was originally passed by voters in the 1980s. Twenty-five percent of the revenue generated from the tax goes to economic development with the rest covering infrastructure costs to lower property assessments.

The results are considered unofficial until Monday.
