WILLISTON, N.D. - A Williston man is in jail after police say he stole a gun and led police on a foot chase.

Court documents show that on May 21, officers were trying to locate 28-year-old Robert View on outstanding warrants for allegedly shooting a gun inside an apartment May 5th and reckless endangerment, when he was spotted in the Bison Drive area riding a bike.

When law enforcement approached View, they say he led police on a foot chase and dropped a backpack containing a smoking device with marijuana residue and a stolen pistol.

Police say the pistol was reported stolen out of Glendive, Mont. in 2014. They also say View is prohibited from possessing a handgun after a 2018 felony conviction for cocaine possession in Florida.

View faces two felony charges for stolen property and prohibited possession, as well as two misdemeanor charges for possession of drug paraphernalia and refusing to halt.
