Williston judge sets 17-year-old's bond to $1 million

WILLISTON, N.D. - A Williston judge set 17-year-old Ian Laboyd’s bond to $1 million on Tuesday.

The state’s attorney says they requested that amount because Laboyd fired a gun three times in an area near other people’s vehicles, and right next to an apartment building, so he is a danger to the community.

The defense attorney says Laboyd acted out of self defense because the four men he met up with wanted to hurt him for stealing LSD from the man he killed, 19-year-old Matthew York. The defense requested a $50,000 to $100,000 bond.

He is facing five felonies as an adult. Prosecutors charged him with murder, attempted murder, possession of stolen property, delivery of a controlled substance, and tampering with physical evidence.

Laboyd is currently being held in Mandan.
