Williston Public School District 1 Bond Referendum fails

WILLISTON, N.D. - Preliminary results show the Williston Public School District 1 Bond Referendum vote has failed by about 85 votes.

School Board President Joanna Baltes says there were 3,450 votes cast in this election, including absentee votes. In the special election in January, when both measures failed by just 50 votes, Baltes says there were over 2,300 votes cast, meaning there was a jump in people getting out to vote Tuesday.

Baltes says of the 1,300 absentee ballots about 70 percent were a yes vote, but that was not the case with the votes cast today. Baltes says they needed about 2,137 yes votes and got 2,052, about 85 short of the 60 percent threshold for victory.

Baltes said earlier today if the bond did not pass, the school board will have some hard decisions to discuss at Wednesday's school board meeting.
