Williston Basin International Airport runway completion may be delayed due to railway flooding
The cement supply for the Williston Basin International Airport (XWA) runway might be delayed due to the Mississippi River flooding railways.
LaFarge, the cement provider from Alberta, Canada's rail cars are immobilized because of flooded rail lines south of the Mississippi River in several places between their location and Williston.
The FAA approved the LaFarge facility to provide the cement, so it must be shipped from that location. The City says getting another supplier approved would take too long.
The City of Williston says it is working with the cement supplier to find alternative solutions, such as bringing in smaller quantities, to stay on schedule. The City Administrator says at this time, the opening date of XWA is still Oct. 10, 2019.
