BISMARCK, N.D. - Could Rep. Kevin Cramer, R-N.D., be reconsidering a run for U.S. Senate? One republican candidate seems to think so. Gary Emineth announced Tuesday he is withdrawing from the race for Sen. Heidi Heitkamp's seat.
In his email to supporters, Emineth said: "Congressman Cramer was my first choice to take on Heidi Heitkamp. Given his decision to enter the race, I find myself unwilling to take on a popular incumbent.”
Emineth told the Associated Press he's spoken to Cramer several times in the last week and he expects the congressman to run.
Cramer announced in January that he would not challenge state Sen. Tom Campbell for the GOP nomination. On Monday, Paul Schaffner announced he would also seek the republican nomination.
Heitkamp's only democratic challenger is Dustin Peyer.
