MINOT, N.D. - Early goose and deer archery has begun and the waterfowl season is coming up in North Dakota.
"Right now, the big game is going to be your deer hunting. Especially with archery starting up. We have had great responses with everything for archery so far. Waterfowl is always huge here in North Dakota and we have people come from across the country,” said Alec Grothe, the hunting manager at Scheels.
A hunter himself, Grothe says it's a lot of work to get ready for right moment.
"There is a lot of strategy that goes into it. If you are out duck or goose hunting, you are out scouting the night before. Waking up at 4 in the morning to set up your spread and get to a field. Brushing your blind and even your calls. That is why it is so rewarding is the process that goes into hunting,” said Alec Grothe.
Along with the tactical strategy comes making sure you blend into the surroundings.
"Pattern is key. If you are in the tree its huge because any bit of movement and the deer sees you and he is gone,” said Dusty Vigstol the Assistant Store Lead at Scheels.
Hunters must also be aware of what type of environment they will be in.
"We are kind of warm right now and thanks to Mother Nature and all the rain we are very green. So the green patterns, the early season patterns they call it will be the ticket right now,” said Vigstol.
Vigstol says he is also an avid hunter.
"My favorite time of year is this time of year because I love to be in the tree stand and waiting for that buck of a life time is what I live for,” said Vigstol.
