Wachter middle school opens food pantry for students

Wachter Middle School is the latest school in Bismarck to open a food pantry for students.

This food pantry opened two weeks ago, and shelves are slowly being filled with donated food. The food pantry is open to any student in need. Organizers say it’s the perfect thing to not only fill an unused storage space in the school, but also to fill a very real need at Wachter.

“We don’t know who’s hungry. It could be your neighbor; it could be the person sitting next to you. We never know who it is who is needing, hungry. One in 10 kids in the Bismarck area goes to bed hungry,” said Nicole Faul, parent family liasion at Wachter.

Wachter is the 11th school in the district to open a food pantry.

There are food pantries at all three middle schools, as well as all three high schools and South Central High School.

Four elementary schools and BECEP also have food pantries. The shelves are filled at all those locations thanks to donations.. if you’d like to donate, check with the school to see what items are most needed.
