Turtle Mountain Tribes halt charity gaming establishments following audit

BELCOURT, N.D. – The Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa says it’s temporarily halting a number of charitable gaming establishments following non-compliance concerns from the National Indian Gaming Commission.

In a press release Tuesday, the tribe said it received a notice from the commission on March 7 to upgrade regulations and monitor the charity bingo games.

Tribal leaders say the commission is now requiring them to get the games in compliance, after it was revealed findings from an audit four years ago were never addressed.

The tribe says it could incur fines of up to $25,000 a day per gaming establishment if it does not address the matter.

The tribe says it hopes to have the games up and running as soon as possible.
