Trial begins for Minot businessman arrested in undercover operation

MINOT, N.D. - Jury selection has begun in the trial of a Minot businessman arrested in 2016 in an sex crime operation.

Investigators say in July of 2016, 59-year-old William Wallace arranged to meet with what he thought was a 16-year-old girl he had met on the Internet, but it turned out to be an undercover officer.

Wallace pleaded guilty in October of 2017 and was ordered to serve 18 months in prison.

The State Supreme Court later ruled Wallace could withdraw his plea, saying the lower court failed to properly inform him of the parameters of his sentence.

The trial is scheduled to run through Thursday.
