WILLISTON, ND - The Williams County Sheriff’s Office says an attempted traffic stop Tuesday afternoon turned into a pursuit, where spike strips and less-than-lethal rounds were eventually used to stop and arrest the suspect.
The Sheriff's Office says 32-year-old Daniel Erickson of Williston refused to stop when officers turned on their lights on Highway 85.
Four miles into the pursuit, officers deployed spike strips on 29th Street West to stop Erickson’s car. Deputies say they fired multiple less-than-lethal “bean-bag” rounds through Erickson’s passenger side window, and he finally exited the vehicle.
Deputies say speeds did not exceed 30 miles per hour during the pursuit.
Prosecutors charged Erickson with Fleeing in a Motor Vehicle, Reckless Driving, and Driving Under Suspension, and the Sheriff’s Office says he will likely be charged with more.
