MINOT, N.D. – Minot Police says that area tobacco retailers are in compliance with the law, following a recent tobacco compliance check.
Police say that 31 businesses passed the check by refusing to sell tobacco to juvenile volunteers.
Four other retailers were closed at the time of the check, and one was not attempted since the volunteer knew the clerk.
In instances where a business would sell to a minor, the clerk would face a fine and the business would be issued a civil penalty. On second penalty, businesses would begin seeing their tobacco licenses suspended.
The legal age to buy tobacco in North Dakota is 18.
