MANDAN, ND - There are some new business owners in Mandan planning something special to take the place of the old Rock Point and Captain Freddy's location.
Michelle and Steve Kauffman, Steven Vetter and Derrek and Liz Sanda decided it was time for something new.
The group decided to come together and renovate the old Rock Point and Captain Freddy's spot on the Missouri River.
"We had the idea that would just be a very family oriented, kind of destination for families to come," Liz Sanda says.
The owners plan to turn the space into a restaurant called "The Paddle Trap."
The joint will serve casual, classic American food with fun twists and the menu will be changed seasonally.
"I really truly think that Bismarck-Mandan is just going to really appreciate having a great spot to sit and have an awesome meal, have some fun drinks and really just enjoy the Missouri River," she explains.
The owners have one more approval meeting with the Mandan City Commission before they plan to begin demolition.
Renovations include a new layout for the bar areas, an updated outside patio, and an upstairs deck addition.
The owners plan to be open for business by early summer of 2020.
