State calls three witnesses in Schwartzenberger removal trial Day 2

WILLISTON, N.D. - Testimony wrapped Tuesday in Gary Schwartzenberger's removal proceedings as McKenzie County Sheriff.

The state called three witnesses this morning before wrapping up their argument. The defense chose not to call a witness, believing their position had been made clear through briefs and testimony over the last two days.

"We simply take the position that the state has just not produced enough evidence to warrant his removal. Nothing that they produced in this courtroom in the last day and a half kind of removal action against any elected official, but especially against sheriff Schwartzenberger," said Mike Geiermann, legal council.

Retired Magistrate Judge Karen Klein will now make a recommendation to Gov. Doug Burgum to remove Schwartzenberger or restore him to his post.
