State Supreme Court rejects appeal in priest attack case

BISMARCK, N.D. – A Minnesota man serving a 10-year sentence for attacking a McHenry County priest last January has lost his appeal to the North Dakota State Supreme Court.

A jury convicted 44-year-old Chad Legare in the January 2018 attack on Rev. Robert Wapenski.

Legare appealed, arguing the lower court violated his Sixth Amendment right to present a defense, but the high court affirmed his conviction.

Legare is currently serving his sentence in the James River Correctional Facility.
