WILLISTON, N.D. - The Emergency room at St. Alexius Health in Williston is busier than in previous years and hiring enough staff to meet the demands is proving challenging.
More than 20,000 hospital visits were made within the past fiscal year in Williston. That's 2,200 more than in 2018.
To keep up with the influx, they have hired 32 new registered nurses this year. They are still in need of more though, and hospital administrators say it's hard to recruit to the area.
"Williston because of the oil industry and stuff, it has been more of a struggle for us to fill some of our positions, but it's the same throughout the United States where nursing is concerned, there's a nursing shortage," said Judi Boyd, HR recruiter.
