Shopping center holds Back to School bash to create shopping memories

BISMARCK, N.D. - The first day of school is sneaking up on kids, and parents.

And heading back to school can be expensive. The National Center for Educational Statistics, estimates that more than 56 million students are heading back to school.

When it comes to back to school shopping, families are expected to spend just under $700 on each child.

Many families will do their shopping online, but store owners at the Hay Creek Shopping Center in north Bismarck says online shopping isn't as fun as in-store shopping, so they held a Back to School bash for families to create back to school shopping memories.

"With online conveniences, a lot of people have decided that, you know, getting out and actually experiencing with the family the whole exciting shopping and getting kids really excited about back to school, some of that has gone to the waist side. We're giving a reason for parents to come out," said Rebecca Galuppo, Hay Creek Marketing VP.

The shopping center hopes to hold the event again next year, and make it an even larger event.
