MINOT, N.D. – Voters have elected Alderman Shaun Sipma as the next Mayor of Minot, according to Tuesday night’s election results.
Sipma held off contenders Tim Mihalick and Nancy Bommelman.
Elected to the City Council last year, Sipma was involved in the #MakeMinot movement that successfully shrunk Minot’s local government to its current ‘modern council’ format.
Sipma worked as an award-winning television news journalist in Minot before moving to the insurance industry.
His election means the city will have to replace his vacancy on the City Council.
He’ll take over later this month for current Mayor Chuck Barney who chose not to seek re-election.
