BISMARCK, N.D. - After serving more than 36 years in the military, Command Sergeant Major Mark Nelson is retiring to spend more time with family.

As the senior enlisted leader he would advise the Adjutant General on all matters relating to the North Dakota National Guard's 4,000 soldiers and airmen. A retirement ceremony was held after his responsibilities were formally passed on.

"I still have a civilian job that I'll be going back to, and also I'm a new grandpa. I'm going to close the book on being a guard, and opening the book to being a grandfather," said CSM Mark Nelson, North Dakota National Guard.

Command Sergeant Major Eric Binstock now takes over as Senior Enlisted Leader.
