Senate votes to allow prayer at high school sports games
Prayer could soon be allowed at all high school games around the state.
The Senate passed a bill allowing students to participate in prayer during an athletic activity at all schools.
The caveat is the prayers must be student initiated.
For some supporters of this bill, however, it doesn't go far enough.
"Here we are in 2017 dealing with the separation of church and state which should not exist in the first place. As an instructor, I can lead a prayer in my classroom because I'm not having the State of North Dakota, my classroom will not be the Church of North Dakota," said Sen. Oley Larsen, R-Minot.
The bill now goes back to the House, which can approve it or send it to conference committee.
