STARK COUNTY, N.D. – A 50-year-old Stanley man suffered serious injuries when his semi hauling anhydrous ammonia overturned on I-94 just east of Belfield Friday morning, in an accident that shut down the interstate for roughly four hours.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol says that the driver was headed westbound on I-94 near mile marker 46 just before 5 a.m.
The driver turned left to avoid a vehicle that merged in front of him and entered the median. He tried to steer back on to the roadway, but overturned and came to rest in the median.
The man’s injuries are said to be non-life-threatening. He was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash, though no airbags deployed.
No hazardous materials were released. Officers detoured traffic until the scene was cleared.
