Santa Cares, a sensory-friendly environment for children with special needs
The sights and sounds of the mall during the holidays are exciting, however, for some children it might be too much.
Some special families got to enjoy the mall and meet Santa in a sensory-friendly environment.
The Kirkwood Mall opened early, turned off the music and dimmed the lights so families could take a photo with Santa in a calm environment.
"The mall can be very hectic, you see today we have all kinds of things going on. There's music back here, there's people everywhere and that can be very over-stimulating for a lot of kids," said marketing director, Mikalah Dahl.
Organizers say they're glad to see the children interacting with Santa and they hope to continue the events for years to come.
