Salvation Army collecting Coats for Kids donations

BISMARCK, N.D. - We're enjoying the last few days of summer, but pretty soon the weather will be changing.

Colder weather means a need for coats. Coats for Kids is collecting in different cities to help.

Drop-off locations and distributions are in Bismarck, Dickinson, Minot and Williston. If you have clean or new coats, you can drop them off until September 30.

The Salvation Army has been collecting coats for kids for years.

"Collect new and gently used coats. The coats are cleaned and prepared for us," said Major Deborah De La Vergne.

In Bismarck, Turitto's Dry Cleaners and Laundry has two locations where you can do a drop off.

Distribution will take place in four cities in North Dakota beginning in October. Salvation Army in Bismarck hopes to help a minimum of 400 families, or 1,000 people.

"We'll bring them all here to this gym where we will set them up and have them ready," said De La Vergne.

De La Vergne says it needs coats that teenagers would want to wear, coats for toddlers, and extra large.

"Adult sizes, plus sizes, particularly large men from 3X up is a rarity that we can always appreciate," she added.

Turitto's Dry Cleaners and laundry says they still have about 100 bags of coats they have to sort through.

Salvation Army only has about 100 coats and is asking for more donations before September ends.
