Roberts Floral: A 4th generation business with roots in honey

BISMARCK, N.D. - A Bismarck florist has been in business for 60 years.

Roberts Floral is a fourth generation family business with a goal to spread happiness.

A milestone for the family behind this floral shop. It all started in the 30s with the honey business. And then became the shop we all know today.

A shop with roots stemming from a greenhouse made for their honey business.

"The flower shop got started because if you have a greenhouse, you might as well have a flower shop," said Mary and Herb Roberts, who have been in the florist business for 60 years.

Herb grew up learning about the business, and his daughter Laura started young, too.

"I have been here since I was a little girl. Like even before I was in grade school I was working in the flower shop playing," said Pat and Laura Russler, current owners of Roberts Floral.

A business that has been passed along for decades.

"Not many people get to do that. Especially this many generations," said Mary and Herb.

But, with it comes a little pressure.

"It’s a weight. We didn't want to be the one to. blow it," said Pat and Laura.

And the next in line are ready to make it blossom even more.

"We want to put our thumb print on it without obscuring anybody else’s," said Joe and Amy Pierce, future owners of Roberts Floral

They all agree serving the community is the most important part of their jobs.

The family hopes their business is around for many years to come. And, they say they hope the future generations continue to push their legacy, but only if they want to do this for a living.
