Road washout in Sioux County, repairs to come

FORT YATES, N.D. - A road washout this week in southern Sioux County left two dead and two injured.

Standing Rock Chairman Mike Faith says the road washout was because of the culvert bursting due to flood waters and Mother Nature’s powers.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Department told Your News Leader Tuesday they have already contracted someone to repair the culvert that burst during the flash flooding Monday night.

Sheriff Frank Landeis says the road going south between Fort Yates and Kenel Road won’t reopen for at least two months while repairs are happening.
