Re-bids announced for Minot's flood protection project

MINOT, N.D. - The engineers behind Minot's Souris River flood protection plan announced the construction bids for the project's first phase Wednesday morning.

Houston Engineering had bid out the first phase earlier this month, but chose to re-bid after realizing they did not have a clear low bidder.

Park Construction, based out of Minneapolis, came in with the apparent lowest total bid for the project at $43,450,450.10.

Six different firms entered bids for the project. The second-lowest bid came in roughly $2 million higher than Park's.

The bids had come in roughly $15 million lower than developers had estimated.

The results are not official yet, as Houston Engineering is combing through the numbers, and the Army Corps of Engineers still has to approve the permitting process.

Houston Engineering says they will award the bid sometime early next year and work on the project will likely begin in the spring.
