Morton County rancher Steven Weinberger told investigators he stole 22 head of cattle worth about $30,000 over the last two years, according to court documents.

The Stockman's Association says this could account for multiple reports of missing livestock in the Breien and Solen areas going back to 2017.

In spring 2019, a livestock barn held up the sale of one head of cattle sold in Sidney, Mont., when they discovered the brand on the animal didn't match the selling rancher.

That rancher told investigators he bought the head from Weinberger, along with other 21 other heads of cattle.

Investigators recovered a dozen animals. Court documents say Weinberger had stolen that dozen from seven different ranches.
