MINOT, N.D. - Minot's Habitat for Humanity is one of 13 local nonprofits participating in Giving Hearts Day.
Bringing people together to build homes, communities and hope, that's the mission for Habitat for Humanity, and it's the same for the local Minot chapter.
They have been building for several months now on the city's east side and are right on track.
"In December, we had the interior walls all framed so that the contractors could come in. So electricians pluming and HVAC are working on the house right now and then the volunteers will step back in, typically we work on Saturday,” said Roxy Volk, executive director for Habitat for Humanity in Minot.
Once the volunteers get in, the goal is to sheet rock the ceiling and get the furnaces running inside the house. Habitat requires the family to put in sweat equity, and the single mother is doing her part.
"She is actually doing all the snow removal. So, she's been doing that, having fun in this bitter cold weather, and learning what it is going to be like when you are a home owner to have to move your snow,” said Volk.
Making progress on a home where soon many memories will be made.
In order to continue progress on this build, Habitat of Minot is looking to raise $15,000 on Giving Hearts Day. The house is slated to be completed by fall of 2019.
